Toucan crossing carrying the NCN26 / Strawberry Line over the A370 / Weston Road in Congresbury. The photo shows the crossing and the ramps up to the path as it continues along the embankment beside the Congresbury Yeo River. Note that th ... [more]

Access onto NCN33 / Brean Down Way from Wayacre Drove. The path is accessed through the space on the right of the gate, which is usually locked. The space is a reasonable width at over 1.5m, although the surface is loose and it is right b ... [more]

One of two kissing gates on the Brean Down Way / NCN33 between Uphill and Brean. Like the other gate the space on this one is restricted and overgrown. There is just sufficient space for a standard cycle - a tandem, bike and trailer, or a ... [more]

A swing gate on the NCN33 / Brean Down Way. Return spring is very strong, and the latch is stiff to operate. This is one of three similar gates on this section of pathway.

Barrier chicane at the point where the Strawberry Line / NCN26 merges with the pavement on Station Road in Sandford. The barrier spacing is not as bad as some at just over 1m, but the barriers are placed partway up a fairly steep slope, ... [more]

Junction of Wrington Road with the A370 / Bristol Road in Congresbury. There is a pass through opposite into a contraflow cycle lane on Wood Hill - unfortunately most map systems show this as one way, not taking into account the contraflow ... [more]

Bollard chicane at the junction of the Festival Way / NCN33 path with Backwell Bow. There are two smaller bollards behind the larger one (one is obscured in the photo), producing quite a tight space for access of approximately 90cm.

The Festival Way / NCN33 crossing of Station Road in Flax Bourton. The single bollard has a reasonable space of over 1m each side and does not present a problem in terms of accessibility. Care should be exercised when crossing here howeve ... [more]

A pair of A frames at the point where the Strawberry Line / NCN26 crosses the entrance to Winscombe Sports Ground. The width of the A frames is 76cm. There are a number of similar A frames along this section of NCN26. The presence of the ... [more]

One of the A frames on the Strawberry Line NCN26. This one is on the section that runs north from the A361 in Sandford to Nye Road. The gap in this A frame is 76cm; for comparison the handlebars on the bike in the photo are 42cm wide.

An A frame on the NCN26 / Strawberry Line, obstructing the path south from Sandford towards Winscombe. The gap through the A frame is 76 cm. There are several other similar frames on the same stretch of path.

Barriers, bollard, and a salt bin obstructing the northern end of the bridge carrying NCN334 over the M5 and the Portbury Hundred. There are no obstructions on the southern side of the bridge in Portbury and the gradient is easier.

A Frame on NCN33 / Brean Down Way, on Brean Sluice. Space through the frames is 72cm. There is a lock on the gate alongside, but it is not a RADAR lock. This is one of six obstacles on the BDW between WsM and Brean - one A frame, two kis ... [more]

Swing gate on NCN33 Brean Down Way. No alternative to this gate, latch and return spring are quite stiff.

Kissing gate on the Brean Down cycle path at Uphill. Just large enough to get a single bike through. The route is further obstructed by another similar kissing gate, three swing gates, and an A frame.

Barrier to traffic free path. Post lying on the floor and narrow entrance around the side.

Poorly maintained and narrow cycle path.

Strawberry Line path Location: Yatton, Hewish Archway marking the start of the Strawberry Line path. Slightly spooky. All it seemed to need was the legend "Arbeit macht frei" attached.

Nice to have a path mostly to yourself if you are a cyclist! I cannot remember exactly where it was but near enough I think.
